INFO: A hamster is a subfamily Cricetinae. Hamsters are indigenous to the Middle East and southeastern Europe. Hamster are easy to keep and breed in captivity, they are often used as lab animals and pets. The best known species of hamster is the Syrian or Golden Hamster (Mesocricetus auratus), which is the type of hamster most commonly kept as a pet. Hamsters do best in a well-lit room of constant, moderate temperature (18 to 26°C, 64 to 80°F).
